I presume that we all have pictures, strategically placed in family rooms, living rooms, dens, bedrooms, office, hallways and God know where else. They are hanging on the walls, standing on the side tables, mantels, desks, counters …… Those are pictures of our babies, kids, wife’s, husbands, grandparents, family…… Pictures from events like weddings, vacations, sports etc. We do carefully choose right frames to match right picture (this is my wife’s job), and than proudly display them and enjoy them. After a while, it becomes the part of house décor. How often, do we really look at those pictures and let emotions to overwhelm us with joy, happiness or sadness, if picture are of the people that passed away. Many people spend their work life in cubicles, and almost every cubicle has the picture of someone. Mostly kids pictures. I remember one cubicle with sign on it “How can I think outside of a box, when I live in cubicle” that was engineering type of a guy. Our memory span is very short. Especially men’s (I know mine is). Also,
I believe that reason that we stop noticing pictures of people that we love is because we are so busy with our lives. We do not have time to play with our memories, which is why we need something to trigger the memory, so we can start painting the mental pictures.
That’s why we have those pictures around us.
But there is nothing that can substitute the hug, kiss, handshake, or look in the eye. You can not fax it, e mail it, twit it, text it. Look at your pictures where ever they are more often. If you need to laugh you laugh, if you need to cry you cry. Refresh your memory daily. That is all you will be taking with you one day. Nothing else, just memories.
Regards,
Branko
